🪸 World Coral Reef Day 🌊💙
Did you know?🌎 Coral reefs cover less than 1% of the ocean floor but support around 25% of all marine species.🇲🇾 Malaysia is home to vibrant coral reef ecosystems that sustain biodiversity, fisheries, tourism and coastal communities.⚠️ Climate change, pollution and unsustainable human activities continue to threaten these vital underwater ecosystems.
In conjunction with World Coral Reef Day, ALAM is proud to highlight our coral reef conservation efforts through the ALAM Be-Leaf Redang programme and Rakan Bumi: Projek Planet Rakan Muda 2026.
On 18 April 2026, together with the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS), Reef Check Malaysia, Redang Marine Conservation Group (RMCG), local communities and youth volunteers, we carried out a coral reef rehabilitation initiative at Pulau Redang. The programme was witnessed by YB Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari, Minister of Youth and Sports.
Key achievements included:🪸 1,250 coral fragments replanted🌊 Establishment of a 2-hectare coral rehabilitation site📈 Ongoing maintenance and monitoring to support coral growth and ecosystem recovery🤝 Training and empowerment of youth islanders through RMCG to strengthen local conservation capacity
Often called the “rainforests of the sea”, coral reefs play a crucial role in protecting coastlines and sustaining marine life. Through collective action and community stewardship, we can help restore and safeguard these precious ecosystems for future generations. 💚

🌊 World Dugong Day 🐋🌱
Did you know?
🇲🇾 Malaysia is home to important dugong populations, especially in the waters of Johor, Sabah and Sarawak.
🌿 Dugongs are known as the “gardeners of the sea” because they feed on seagrass and help maintain healthy marine ecosystems.
💙 Seagrass meadows not only support dugongs, but also store carbon, protect coastlines and provide habitats for many marine species.
⚠️ Today, dugongs face growing threats from habitat loss, coastal development, marine pollution, boat strikes and accidental entanglement in fishing nets.
Lets helps create a safer home for these gentle marine mammals. 🌏✨
📸 Join the ALAM IG Challenge #2 from 15 May – 17 July 2026 and share your creativity, environmental stories, and love for nature with us. Together, let’s inspire more action for marine conservation and a sustainable future. 💚

🌿 Rooted in Sabah, Growing Hope for the Future 🌿
In conjunction with Hari Hutan Antarabangsa 2026 Peringkat Kebangsaan hosted by Sabah, a powerful movement for nature and future generations came to life at the breathtaking Hutan Simpan Sook Lake.
Together with more than 300 passionate participants, we allocated 1,000 trees as a symbol of our collective commitment towards restoring ecosystems, strengthening climate resilience and protecting Sabah’s rich biodiversity for generations to come. 🌏💚
This meaningful initiative was witnessed by YB Tan Sri Dato’ Dr Johari Abdul, Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat and YB Dato’ Sri Arthur Joseph Kurup, Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability.
The programme reflects the strength of collaboration through the partnership between:
🤝 Jabatan Perhutanan Sabah
🤝 Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES)
🤝 Ministry of Youth and Sports through Program Rakan Bumi under Rakan Muda
🤝 Bank Pembangunan Malaysia Berhad Group
🤝 Yayasan PETRONAS
🤝 Yayasan Sime Darby & SD Guthrie
Every tree planted today is more than just a seedling — it is a promise to preserve our forests, empower communities and inspire climate action across Malaysia. 🌱✨

♻️ International Plastic Free Day 🌍💚
Did you know?🗑️ More than 400 million tonnes of plastic waste are produced globally every year.🌊 Around 11 million tonnes of plastic enter our oceans annually, harming marine life and ecosystems.🇲🇾 In Malaysia, single-use plastics remain one of the major contributors to waste pollution, impacting rivers, coastlines and biodiversity.
Plastic pollution does not disappear — it breaks down into microplastics that can enter our food chain, water systems and environment. Small daily actions such as using reusable bags, bottles and containers can create a meaningful impact when done collectively. 🌱
This International Plastic Free Day, let’s rethink our consumption habits and take steps towards a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable future. Together, every action counts. ✨
📸 Join the ALAM IG Challenge #2 from 15 May – 17 July 2026 and showcase your creativity through environmental stories, sustainable living practices and moments that inspire positive action for the planet. 🌏💚

🐢 World Turtle Day 🌊💚
Did you know?
🌎 Sea turtles have existed for more than 100 million years — even surviving the extinction of dinosaurs.
🪸 Turtles help maintain healthy marine ecosystems by supporting seagrass beds and coral reefs.
⚠️ Today, many turtle species are threatened by plastic pollution, habitat loss, illegal trade and climate change.
Every small action matters — reducing plastic use, protecting beaches and conserving marine habitats can help ensure turtles continue to thrive for generations to come. 🌱
This World Turtle Day, let’s work together to protect our oceans and the incredible species that call them home. 🐢✨
📸 Join the ALAM IG Challenge #2 from 15 May – 17 July 2026 and share your creativity and love for nature through photos, videos and environmental storytelling. Together, let’s inspire more people to protect our planet and marine life. 🌏💚

🌿 International Day for Biological Diversity 🌍
Did you know?
🐝 More than 75% of global food crops depend, at least in part, on pollinators like bees and butterflies.
🌳 Forests are home to over 80% of the world’s terrestrial biodiversity.
🌊 Oceans produce at least 50% of the Earth’s oxygen and support millions of livelihoods worldwide.
Biodiversity is not just about protecting plants and animals, it is essential for food security, clean water, climate resilience and human well-being. Every action we take today helps protect the ecosystems that sustain life for future generations. 💚
This International Day for Biological Diversity, let’s continue to protect, restore, and celebrate nature through collective action and sustainable living. Together, we can build a healthier and more resilient planet. 🌱✨

🕊️ World Migratory Bird Day 🌏✨
Did you know?
🐦 Migratory birds travel thousands of kilometres across countries and continents every year in search of food, breeding grounds, and warmer climates.
🌿 Malaysia plays an important role as a stopover site for many migratory bird species along the East Asian–Australasian Flyway.
⚠️ However, habitat loss, climate change, pollution, and illegal hunting continue to threaten migratory bird populations worldwide.
Wetlands, mangroves, forests, and coastal ecosystems provide essential resting and feeding grounds for these incredible travellers. Protecting these habitats not only supports biodiversity but also strengthens ecosystem health for communities and future generations. 💚
This World Migratory Bird Day, let’s work together to conserve nature and create safer skies and habitats for migratory birds around the world. 🌱🕊️
