π World Environment Day π
World Environment Day reminds us that protecting our environment is a shared responsibility. Healthy ecosystems provide us with clean air, clean water, food security and resilience against climate change.
This year, ALAM has strengthened its commitment to environmental conservation through various initiatives across Malaysia, including mangrove planting, beach clean-ups, coral reef rehabilitation efforts and upcycling activities in Pulau Redang, as well as tree-planting programmes with local communities in Keningau, Sabah. These initiatives empower local communities and youth to become active stewards of our natural heritage.
Every action matters. Whether it is protecting biodiversity, restoring ecosystems, reducing waste or raising awareness, we all have a role to play in building a more sustainable future. π±

πͺΈ World Coral Reef Day ππ
Did you know?π Coral reefs cover less than 1% of the ocean floor but support around 25% of all marine species.π²πΎ Malaysia is home to vibrant coral reef ecosystems that sustain biodiversity, fisheries, tourism and coastal communities.β οΈ Climate change, pollution and unsustainable human activities continue to threaten these vital underwater ecosystems.
In conjunction with World Coral Reef Day, ALAM is proud to highlight our coral reef conservation efforts through the ALAM Be-Leaf Redang programme and Rakan Bumi: Projek Planet Rakan Muda 2026.
On 18 April 2026, together with the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS), Reef Check Malaysia, Redang Marine Conservation Group (RMCG), local communities and youth volunteers, we carried out a coral reef rehabilitation initiative at Pulau Redang. The programme was witnessed by YB Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari, Minister of Youth and Sports.
Key achievements included:πͺΈ 1,250 coral fragments replantedπ Establishment of a 2-hectare coral rehabilitation siteπ Ongoing maintenance and monitoring to support coral growth and ecosystem recoveryπ€ Training and empowerment of youth islanders through RMCG to strengthen local conservation capacity
Often called the βrainforests of the seaβ, coral reefs play a crucial role in protecting coastlines and sustaining marine life. Through collective action and community stewardship, we can help restore and safeguard these precious ecosystems for future generations. π

π World Dugong Day ππ±
Did you know?
π²πΎ Malaysia is home to important dugong populations, especially in the waters of Johor, Sabah and Sarawak.
πΏ Dugongs are known as the βgardeners of the seaβ because they feed on seagrass and help maintain healthy marine ecosystems.
π Seagrass meadows not only support dugongs, but also store carbon, protect coastlines and provide habitats for many marine species.
β οΈ Today, dugongs face growing threats from habitat loss, coastal development, marine pollution, boat strikes and accidental entanglement in fishing nets.
Lets helps create a safer home for these gentle marine mammals. πβ¨

πΏ Rooted in Sabah, Growing Hope for the Future πΏ
In conjunction with Hari Hutan Antarabangsa 2026 Peringkat Kebangsaan hosted by Sabah, a powerful movement for nature and future generations came to life at the breathtaking Hutan Simpan Sook Lake.
Together with more than 300 passionate participants, we allocated 1,000 trees as a symbol of our collective commitment towards restoring ecosystems, strengthening climate resilience and protecting Sabahβs rich biodiversity for generations to come. ππ
This meaningful initiative was witnessed by YB Tan Sri Datoβ Dr Johari Abdul, Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat and YB Datoβ Sri Arthur Joseph Kurup, Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability.
The programme reflects the strength of collaboration through the partnership between:
π€ Jabatan Perhutanan Sabah
π€ Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES)
π€ Ministry of Youth and Sports through Program Rakan Bumi under Rakan Muda
π€ Bank Pembangunan Malaysia Berhad Group
π€ Yayasan PETRONAS
π€ Yayasan Sime Darby & SD Guthrie
Every tree planted today is more than just a seedling β it is a promise to preserve our forests, empower communities and inspire climate action across Malaysia. π±β¨

β»οΈ International Plastic Free Day ππ
Did you know?ποΈ More than 400 million tonnes of plastic waste are produced globally every year.π Around 11 million tonnes of plastic enter our oceans annually, harming marine life and ecosystems.π²πΎ In Malaysia, single-use plastics remain one of the major contributors to waste pollution, impacting rivers, coastlines and biodiversity.
Plastic pollution does not disappear β it breaks down into microplastics that can enter our food chain, water systems and environment. Small daily actions such as using reusable bags, bottles and containers can create a meaningful impact when done collectively. π±
This International Plastic Free Day, letβs rethink our consumption habits and take steps towards a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable future. Together, every action counts. β¨

π’ World Turtle Day ππ
Did you know?
π Sea turtles have existed for more than 100 million years β even surviving the extinction of dinosaurs.
πͺΈ Turtles help maintain healthy marine ecosystems by supporting seagrass beds and coral reefs.
β οΈ Today, many turtle species are threatened by plastic pollution, habitat loss, illegal trade and climate change.
Every small action matters β reducing plastic use, protecting beaches and conserving marine habitats can help ensure turtles continue to thrive for generations to come. π±
This World Turtle Day, letβs work together to protect our oceans and the incredible species that call them home. π’β¨
