🪸 Coral Triangle Day 🌊💙

Did you know?🌎 The Coral Triangle is home to nearly 76% of the world’s coral species and more than 2,000 species of reef fish, making it the global centre of marine biodiversity. Malaysia is one of the six countries within the Coral Triangle, alongside Indonesia, Philippines, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and Timor-Leste.🐠 The region supports food security, livelihoods and coastal protection for millions of people.⚠️ However, climate change, pollution and unsustainable human activities continue to threaten this invaluable marine ecosystem.

Coral Triangle Day reminds us of the importance of protecting our oceans and preserving the rich biodiversity that sustains life above and below water. Through conservation, education and collective action, we can help ensure a healthier future for our marine ecosystems. 🌱

📸 Join the ALAM IG Challenge #2 from 15 May – 17 July 2026 and share your passion for nature, sustainability and marine conservation. Together, let’s inspire positive action for our blue planet!

🌊 World Ocean Day 💙

Did you know?
🌎 The ocean covers more than 70% of the Earth’s surface and produces at least 50% of the oxygen we breathe.
🐟 Oceans support millions of livelihoods, provide food security and regulate our climate.
⚠️ However, marine ecosystems continue to face growing threats from pollution, overfishing, habitat degradation and climate change.

World Ocean Day is a reminder that a healthy ocean is essential for a healthy planet. Protecting our oceans means protecting biodiversity, supporting coastal communities and securing a sustainable future for generations to come.

Every effort counts. By reducing pollution, conserving marine habitats and embracing sustainable practices, we can all play a part in safeguarding our blue planet. 🌱

🪸 World Coral Reef Day 🌊💙

Did you know?🌎 Coral reefs cover less than 1% of the ocean floor but support around 25% of all marine species.🇲🇾 Malaysia is home to vibrant coral reef ecosystems that sustain biodiversity, fisheries, tourism and coastal communities.⚠️ Climate change, pollution and unsustainable human activities continue to threaten these vital underwater ecosystems.

In conjunction with World Coral Reef Day, ALAM is proud to highlight our coral reef conservation efforts through the ALAM Be-Leaf Redang programme and Rakan Bumi: Projek Planet Rakan Muda 2026.

On 18 April 2026, together with the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS), Reef Check Malaysia, Redang Marine Conservation Group (RMCG), local communities and youth volunteers, we carried out a coral reef rehabilitation initiative at Pulau Redang. The programme was witnessed by YB Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari, Minister of Youth and Sports.

Key achievements included:🪸 1,250 coral fragments replanted🌊 Establishment of a 2-hectare coral rehabilitation site📈 Ongoing maintenance and monitoring to support coral growth and ecosystem recovery🤝 Training and empowerment of youth islanders through RMCG to strengthen local conservation capacity

Often called the “rainforests of the sea”, coral reefs play a crucial role in protecting coastlines and sustaining marine life. Through collective action and community stewardship, we can help restore and safeguard these precious ecosystems for future generations. 💚

🌊 World Dugong Day 🐋🌱

Did you know?
🇲🇾 Malaysia is home to important dugong populations, especially in the waters of Johor, Sabah and Sarawak.
🌿 Dugongs are known as the “gardeners of the sea” because they feed on seagrass and help maintain healthy marine ecosystems.
💙 Seagrass meadows not only support dugongs, but also store carbon, protect coastlines and provide habitats for many marine species.
⚠️ Today, dugongs face growing threats from habitat loss, coastal development, marine pollution, boat strikes and accidental entanglement in fishing nets.

Lets helps create a safer home for these gentle marine mammals. 🌏✨

📸 Join the ALAM IG Challenge #2 from 15 May – 17 July 2026 and share your creativity, environmental stories, and love for nature with us. Together, let’s inspire more action for marine conservation and a sustainable future. 💚
